Technics turntable restoration for the legendary Niche Nightclub
Niche the Vinyl chapter
This Friday night in Sheffield see's the reunion party of all the original DJs from Niche night club in Sheffield (the birthplace of bassline).
The club opened its doors back in 1993 and over the decades that followed firmly established itself in the history books. Where Manchester had the Hacienda, London had the ministry of sound, Sheffield had Niche. The style of music played at the club became so legendary that the generation of clubbers that came after would refer to the music as Niche.
A couple of weeks ago we got a call from Steve (owner and creator of Niche) asking if we know what happened to the original technics turntables that used to be in the club and whether we know who had them? As it happens, we did know where they were.. sat in boxes in our warehouse having not been touched since the day they were removed!
We dug them out and to be honest, they looked in a bit of a sorry state, but 52nd Street set to work to fully restore their technics turntables and will be installing them into Tank Nightclub Sheffield for one night only this Friday!
The turntables have not been played on since the day that Niche closed its doors all those years ago and in a fitting tribute, the same DJs that last played on them will be digging out the same old vinyl and playing on them once more!
52nd Street engineers will be on site we have re-configured the Funktion One sound system to bring out the very best in those old Niche tunes!
Friday night will truly be a fitting send off to the Legend that was Niche! For more info, head over to the Tank Nightclub Facebook Page.
